Comic imitates Beckham for good cause

An ageing Irish comic has recreated David Beckham's famous underwear modelling pose, but all in the name of a good cause.

Tim McGarry of Give My Head Peace showed off his body in the name of Amnesty International, in order to promote a huge comedy event happening in Belfast this weekend.

While the Secret Policeman's Ball is going on at London's Royal Albert Hall on Saturday, live streaming of the evening will be broadcast on a big screen at the Errigal Inn.

This will be the only cinecast in Ireland, which joins venues in Australia, Canada and other locations around the world in the simultaneous screning of the event.

Patrick Corrigan, Northern Ireland programme director of Amnesty International said: "When you laugh at a joke along with lots of other people you realise that they feel the same way you do."

Stars including John Cleese, the Mighty Boosh and Razorlight are expected to perform at the event in London, but people flying in to Belfast will also get to see McGarry doing a live stand up set at the Errigal Inn.
