New routes announced for Belfast airport

New routes have been announced to fly in and out of Belfast International Airport, starting next year.

Jet2.com has revealed that it is to expand its range of routes from the Irish capital, with a British location among the additions.

From May 2009, Dubrovnik in Croatia and Newquay in England will be able to be reached from Belfast by air.

The expansion plans will also create 50 new jobs in the aviation industry.

Plans to suspend the Belfast to Barcelona route because of over-capacity have also been stated.

Jet2.com chief executive, Philip Meeson, commented: "These are exciting times for us and, unlike other airlines which are grounding planes due to hard times, we are expanding our range of destinations and are planning to increase our overall capacity from Northern Ireland."

The firm's half-year results were announced last month, with profits of over £30 million pleasing Mr Meeson.
