Revolutionary art displayed

The activities of a group of 18th century Belfast revolutionaries were captured in a series of paintings, which hare now available to view in the city.

A movement called the Society of United Irishmen, which attempted to create an independent Ireland in the 1790s and referred to themselves as the Muddle Club, have been depicted in a series of four paintings.

These Michael O'Neill artworks are set to go on permanent display in the city's Cathedral Quarter, the BBC reports.

It is the latest in a series of art ventures in Belfast and forms part of the regeneration of the Warehouse Lane area, which will also include the opening of a £15 million hotel, bar and restaurant later this month.

Social development minister Margaret Ritchie called th project both "vibrant and dynamic".

"The regeneration of this historic Four Corners site and the commissioning of this art is another excellent example of how the private sector can work with government to deliver top quality development in a very important part of Belfast's city centre," she said.

Belfast has numerous galleries open to visit, including the Bradbury Gallery, which is home to exhibitions on both Bob Dylan and Pele.ADNFCR-1390-ID-18809784-ADNFCR
