easyJet passengers increase

The number of people flying with low-cost airline easyJet is on the increase, new figures have revealed.

During September, 4.2 million passengers flew with the airline, an amount just under 22 per cent higher than at the same time last year.

Also, despite months of difficulty for easyJet, the firm's load factor is actually 2.8 per cent higher than during the same period in 2007, rising from 84.1 per cent to 86.9 per cent.

Half of all passengers going through Belfast International Airport are easyJet customers and the company runs 21 separate routes from the Irish capital.

High oil prices and the impact of the credit crunch on the number of people flying abroad had hit the airline recently, but the boost in passenger numbers could see the firm get back on its feet.

A decade has passed since easyJet first made Belfast its base and the carrier recently marked this occasion when chief executive Andy Harrison paid a visit to Belfast International Airport with a cake for staff.ADNFCR-1390-ID-18816592-ADNFCR
